The XL7 must be connected to a Hydramotion VP550 signal processor.
The XL7 is NOT a 4-20mA transducer. Ensure that it is connected as shown in Section 6 and Section 7.
Always power the transducer from a signal processor, either directly or through a Zener barrier in the case of intrinsically safe installation. Never power the transducer directly from a voltage source.
The XL7 transducer can be mounted up to 1000 metres from the signal processor provided that the recommended cable type is used. For intrinsically safe systems, cable parameters must conform to the details specified on the relevant certification.
Although the cable between the XL7 transducer and the signal processor carries robust digital signals, an overall screen is recommended to avoid any high-intensity electrical pickup.
Connection details, wiring diagrams and recommended cable specifications are given in the following sections:
For details of signal processor displays, outputs and configuration, please refer to the User Manual for the specific processor.
All connections to the XL7 are made to the 3-way screw-terminal block inside the head enclosure Figure 8.
To access the terminal block, unscrew and remove the lid of the enclosure. Loosen the M20 cable gland and pass the cable through. The cable gland accepts cable with an external diameter of 5 to 12mm, other cable diameters may negatively affect the IP rating.
After fitting the cable, tighten the gland and screw the lid tightly back on the enclosure to maintain its IP67 rating. Damage due to ingress caused by improper replacement of the enclosure lid is not covered by warranty.
