The VP550 has a display screen, two indicator LEDs and a 5-key control pad for accessing parameters, navigating through menus and selecting functions. This Section briefly describes the operation of each of these.
For initial configuration of the viscometer system, see Section 3.
For day-to-day management of the system, see Section 4.
2.1 Display
- On power-up, the display shows the Hydramotion logo briefly, followed by the Main Display (see Figure 16).
- The Main Display always shows the currently-measured viscosity:
VL | dynamic viscosity |
VN | kinematic viscosity |
- Various other parameters may also be shown, depending on the configuration of the display and the inputs to the VP550:
DENSITY | fluid density |
PRESSURE | pressure |
TEMP | fluid temperature |
VLP | pressure-controlled dynamic viscosity |
VLT | temperature-corrected dynamic viscosity |
VLTP | pressure- and temperature-corrected dynamic viscosity |
VNT | temperature-corrected kinematic viscosity |
- If the sensor is immersed in a fluid, the displayed value will be the current measured (“live”) viscosity of that fluid.
- The Main Display shows the averaged, not instantaneous, viscosity measurement. See section 4.4.
- The display will automatically switch between dynamic and kinematic viscosity according to the units selected (see Section 3.3.1).
- On power-up, the alarm screen (Section 5.5) will automatically appear if there is an alarm condition. To revert to the Main Display, press the left arrow
. To go to the alarm screen, press the right arrow
.
- An alert message in the top right-hand corner of the Main Display indicates an alarm condition:
alm | internal alarm | Sec. 5.5 |
con | expected input not present or below threshold | Sec. 5.1 |
sig | no signal from transducer | Sec. 5.2 |
See the relevant parts of Section 5 (“Troubleshooting”), as indicated above, for further details of alarms.
2.2 Indicator LEDs
• There are two indicator LEDS:
LED | colour | indication |
green/red | alarm | |
red/green | data transfer between transducer and VP550 |
- The alarm LED
illuminates steady green if all is well.
- See Section 5 if:
(1) the alarm LEDshows red (flashing or steady), or
(2) the data transfer LEDdoes not illuminate when the transducer is connected to the VP550 and the power supply is on.
2.3 Keypad and navigation
Keys have the following general functions:
key | function |
(1) access selected item (2) modify selected parameter |
|
(1) back to previous screen (2) move to preceding character |
|
move to following character | |
(1) select previous item in a menu (2) increment value of a digit |
|
(1) select next item in a menu (2) decrement value of a digit |
2.3.1 Accessing menus
- To access software menus from the Main Display, press and hold down
(see Sections 3 and 4).
• To return to the Main Display from any screen, press the left arrow. It may be necessary to press
two or three times.
• To return to the previous screen from any screen, press the left arrow.
• Except in the Main Displays, the top line of any screen indicates the menu title for the currently selected item.
• On menu displays, selectable items are indicated by arrowheads, either filledor unfilled
. Items without arrowheads are not selectable.
• A filled arrowhead (or
) indicates the currently selected item. For example, in Figure 17 the item USER OPTIONS is selected.
• An unfilled arrowheadindicates other selectable items within the menu.
- For the complete menu tree, see Appendix 1.
- To return to the previous screen from any screen, select the menu title (left- pointing filled arrowhead
) and press
.
- Press the down arrow
or the up arrow
to view and/or select other items as desired.
- To access a selected item, press
.
- Proceed in the same way to select and/or access submenus.
2.3.2 Changing a numerical value
To change the numerical value of an item:
- Navigate to the desired item.
- With the desired item selected (indicated with a filled arrowhead
), press
. The leftmost (first) digit will flash.
- To abort the change, press
again.
- Press the up arrow
to increase the value. Press the down arrow ¼ to decrease the value.
- To adjust the values of other digits, press the left arrow
or the right arrow
as required. The currently-selected digit will be highlighted.
- Press the up arrow
or the down arrow
to adjust the value of the highlighted digit.
- When the item has the desired value, press
.
- To enter a negative value:
1. Adjust the values of all the digits to 0 (zero).
2. Select the rightmost digit.
3. Press the down arrow. The negative sign (“ – ”) will appear in front of the item.
4. Adjust the values of the digits as required.
Note that for negative numbers, the down arrowincreases the value and the up arrow
decreases the value.
- Modified values are conserved on power-down.
2.3.3 Selecting an option from a list
- Navigate to the relevant item.
- To change the selection:
(1) press. The option will be highlighted.
(2) use the up arrowor the down arrow
as required until the desired option is visible.
(3) pressto confirm the selection.
- Modified selections are conserved on power-down.
